If I had to bring something from the Botswana culture it would be the crimes, no guns/crime connections, less drug use, and family and friend support. Crime is bad no matter what but here in the US we have a lot of shootings. In Botswana when a thief comes to steal something they don’t carry a gun, so if they don’t have a gun there is not as great of a chance someone will be killed. The police don’t carry guns either so they can’t shoot the thief so there is not a lot of shooting going on. This is because they have respect for each other. When there are not a lot of people shooting that means not a lot of people are dying. I would also bring the family system. I like the fact that the families are very close and the fact that the kids know that whatever happens there is always someone to take care of them. I like how close the neighbors are. Some people in the US don’t like whoever is their neighbor, but it seems as if the neighbors get along, associate with each other, and are very close. I would also bring how little the people smoke and drink. I like how it is looked down upon if they do these things. I think the world would be a better place if there was a lot less smoking and drinking.
The worst crimes in Botswana come mostly from the witchdoctors and America doesn’t have those. Witchcraft is practiced in the US, unfortunately. Although thievery if the biggest crime, they use no weapons. Drug trafficking is not a big thing there and if America was like that, the crime rate might go down more.
If I was able to bring a piece of Botswana’s culture to America I would definitely bring the low crime rates, everyone would feel safer in their homes and everything would be more peaceful. I like the fact that they do not have planned, thought out, crimes; which would make the crimes less cruel and less violent. -Maci 1st hour
I would bring Botswana’s crime because we would not have as much murders and shooting that we do now. We would feel a lot safer living in the United States knowing that there is not that much violence taking place.
I would also bring Botswana’s politics because they spend wisely and don’t get into it as much as the United States does. If we spent less money on politics our country might have more money.
Finally, I would bring over the smoking and drugs. Not a lot of people in Botswana smoke or traffic drugs. This would also make our country much safer because not a lot of people would be high on drugs or getting cancer from smoking and dying from both. -Summer 1st Hour
I would bring never used guns a lot of the deaths would have happened by the use of a guns not one death has happened by the use of a gun in Botswana. In 2008 in the United States around 31,593 people died by being shot in 2008 no one died in Botswana by a gun in 2008. I would also bring back how if someone disagreed with a political official disagrees respectfully. I would bring back how is the persons family died you would be taken care of a family member and if they died you would be taken care of by your neighbor. Has any one heard of the saying “It takes a village to raise a child”?
Some of the Botswana culture I would bring to the U.S. is the music I heard in Botswana and their food sounds really interesting. Topic sentence includes music and food only. I don’t think I would wear their clothes. I would rather wear my clothes now. I do and don’t like their huts they live in. I do because they don’t need to pay for electricity and all, but wouldn’t they want fresh water in their homes? I know I would.
1.) I was amazed by the fact that people walk for hours, then ride a bus for even longer just to get to work. Their money management skills are also quite impressive. 2.) I would bring their work ethic and willingness to go to great lengths just to work. I would also bring the government's policy of not going into debt to do something.
Kaleb 1st hour 1. What stood out to me was that people are taught about HIV, and they just do not listen to their warning 2. What I would bring from Botswana to the US is their peace.
Some things that stood out was that the education did not effect on how the botswana people play sports. If one of us Americans receive an F on our report card we could play in that next game or until we get that grade up. Another thing that stood out is that the cops there don’t have guns. The cops there have batons only because there isn’t much crie to have guns. Only some of the Military guys are only trained to use guns. If I could bring something from Botswana to the U.S. is that how hot the summer are. the summers can reach 100.- Brett Johnson 1st hour
I was surprised mostly by the fact that ambulances have little to no technology. That must make for pretty crummy medical care. If I were to bring something from Botswana to the U.S., I would bring the HIV education.

What would you bring to the US? If I could bring something back from Botswana I would bring back the low crime rate. I would feel so much safer with the crime rate so low.
Vianca 2nd: What stood out to me was that the temperatures are very high. There favorite sport is soccer. They have soccer fields mostly everywhere that there is a wide space. In the families the mother and father are not married. The men have kids all over.
I would bring the percent of population of cars which is 20 percent. I would also bring the crime rate from Botswana to the United States.
Reflection- Jacob 2nd hour I realize that HIV is bad in this area, but the skype made me realize that it is worse than it seems. I would bring the diamond mines to the US. I would also bring the school marches to raise money, and I would bring the low crime rates to the U.S.
The thing that really stood out to me that is in Botswana women cant have an abortion. The reason is that if they do that then can get a job but if they have a child they cant really get a job.
THe thing that i would bring back form Botswana is the sun the beautiful wether down there. And the friendlyness
The thing I would bring back from botswana is the cell phones because they are cheap in botswana. Another thing I would bring back is worms, sometime they taste like dirt, but it depends on how you make them because sometime they even taste like beef jerky. They thing that stood out to me is that everybody has tv and everybody has cellphones. And they won't let Mcdonalds in because they don't use Botswana meat.
Reflection- Kelby 2nd hour Reflection The thing that stood out the most in Botswana is how people don’t get married. Another thing that stood out was how you could really trust anyone in Botswana, especially when others need their children cared for. The third thing that stood out was how high of temps the reach; it’s really hot. The fourth thing that stood out was how they really don’t play with real soccer balls, they play with things they find. The last thing that stood out is how they eat these Mopane worms. The things I would like to take back to the U.S. is how very little crime they have there. The second thing I would like to take back to the U.S. is how you can trust anyone really. The last thing I would like to take back is how little flooding they receive.
1. What stood out about Botswana? What stood out to me was that the family structure, but actually there is no family structure. Most dad’s flea and leave the mom with the baby. Who would take poor care of the child and most die from HIV and leave the child by itself.
2. What would you bring back from Botswana? I would bring back me some donkeys because people in Botswana complain about donkey’s. Here, no one ever talks about donkeys but they would be so cool to have over here. I would also bring over mopane worms to try if they taste like beef jerky count me in.
What stood out to me about Botswana was that there are no weapons allowed and that even police officers don’t carry guns. Another thing that stood out was that people in Botswana don’t question the government at all. They do as they are told without any doubts at all which is very different compared to the U.S.
What I would bring back from the U.S is the sense of security and safety that they have at home and throughout the entire country.
What stood out in Botswana for me was that they spend a lot of time outside working. There are animals pretty much everywhere you look in Botswana, and they have tons of elephants! The Botswanans don't usually have 3 meals a day, and they love chicken. Kailey 1st Hour
I would bring back the idea of not snacking very much, and only eating a small breakfast and large dinner. This would prevent obesity and other eating issues that people in the US have. 1. What stood out about Botswana? 2. What would I bring back to the United States?
The thing that stood out to me the most about Botswana was how many people own donkeys and how common it is to see them wandering the streets. In comparison to the United States, that is really bizarre because that is not common in the United States. Also, not many people living in Botswana know who their biological father is. In the United States, this is not as common, but still happens. Another thing that stood out was how there are sand fields instead of grass, which is a lot different. Many people don’t wear shoes when playing soccer, which happens to be one of the most popular sports in Botswana. 85% of the population is over 60 years of age, which seems very different in comparison to the United States. International Airports there are also the size of a post office in Richland Center, Wisconsin, which is extremely different. After the Botswana skype, one of the main things I would bring back to the United States would be the use of donkeys more! I think that is a really cool idea, and many people do not think of donkeys as a pet or ride. Another thing I would bring back would be the variety of foods available there, but not necessarily mopane worms! After learning about all of the other foods from Botswana, I am starting to realize how I would like a bigger variety of foods, instead of hamburgers and fries. I would also like to bring back the lower crime rate, which compared to the United States, is extremely low. Brooklyn 2nd Hour
